Summary: Sherlock knows that with the development of optical instruments in the Baroque, humans suddenly found themselves between two infinities: the endlessly vast cosmos and the inconceivably minuscule universe of life on Earth. That's how he feels as a sentinel, stretched between the two infinities and held only by John, his guide. But John has never wanted to be a part of this life. Now that he can fulfill his dream of a wife, a suburban house, and children with Sarah, Sherlock finds himself on the losing side.
