And if Holmes and Moriarty are in some ways mirrors of each other, so if Holmes is allowed negative traits, then surely that must mean Moriarty must have some positive ones as well.
That's really insightful. As much as we all presumably admire Holmes if we're in this fandom in the first place, I'd say generally we remember to write him as a flawed and complex human; but it's so easy to simplify Moriarty into Just Evil. But hardly anyone is just evil, right? Or even if they are, they might still have their own particular loyalties that they honor even while doing terrible things... Hm, lots to think about!
