I really like this idea of Watson and Holmes gently deducing and discovering their way into a relationship, rather than it being one cataclysmic event, and that by the time they talk about it, there's no grand confession to be made – they both already know exactly what they're talking about, and it's only a matter of both agreeing out loud once and for all.
