If this is a pairing fic, I like that my pairing be that "you and me against (or with!) the world" kind of bond, whether or not they quite realize it yet, or still have a bit of work to do to get there.
Yes: Any of the following would be grand (yes, some of them contradict each other): snuggly, sassy, snarky, twisted, clueless, devious, playful, virginal, experienced, first times, established, domestic, adventure, sweet, gritty, awkward, intense, banter-filled
No: (in the pairing, although as part of non-pairing plot is OK) torture, humiliation, cruelty, rape, incest, suicide; infidelity, multiple partners; mpreg, Omegaverse. No BBC Irene as a main character. For this go-round, anyway, no Mary. Nothing S3 theoretically or actually spoilery at all, please.

Special requests: As either an author or recipient, I also love fics that explore the relationship between Sherlock and Mycroft (again, not incestuously, just that fascinating dynamic) and fics where John and Mycroft have significant interaction. ::brandishes "I <3 Mycroft" badge::  I would not at all mind bringing in an interesting non-BBC-canon character, other Holmes or Watson family members, Victor Trevor or similar. I like seeing Molly in fics as a quirkily human but ultimately non-mousy character. Given the time of year, something winter-themed would be lovely. None of this section necessary, just some musings.

P.S. This is my second Holmestice. I had a really positive experience the first time around, so...again!
