[personal profile] holmesticemods posting in [community profile] holmestice
Sorted by category and fandom, all the amazing fanworks created by this year's participants, for your perusal and entertainment and finally with the names attached. Now comments can be answered and works reposted all over the web, and pimping shall commence far and wide!

Recipients: while it's in no way a rule and requirement to comment on your gift (and most of you have done so already), it is nevertheless highly encouraged.

If you haven't added your fanwork to the AO3 collection, and you want to, you can add it here: Holmestice Exchange - Winter 2017.

ETA: For those who have already posted their works to the AO3 collection, we recommend updating your posting date to today, as works are ordered in the tags by posting date, not reveal date, and your works probably never received their proper turn at the top of their respective tags.

And now, without further ado, the Grand Reveal!

Many thanks to everyone who participated! If you see any mistakes or omissions in the master list, please email the mods and we'll get it fixed up ASAP.

We'll be editing the posts now to put all the author/artist and beta information in there as well, but it's going to take some time. Please have a little patience; we'll get there.

GRAYCARDINAL YOU WRETCHED MAN

Ahem. Well, some surprises there. In particular, I never once suspected [personal profile] oldshrewsburyian had written a Study in Emerald fic. But looking at my stated guesses, I think I have scored 12 out of 14, which I'm very happy with.

Congratulations to all creators, and thank you to the mods for all their hard work. It's been quite a ride! ^__^ And I'd just like to apologise to [personal profile] starfishstar as well - best to get that in early ^^"

You were batting 1000 there for a bit and Sang and I were having quite the discussion about it.

I WAS ROOTING FOR YOU TO NAIL GRAYCARDINAL. ROOTING FOR YOU, YOU HEAR??

You want [personal profile] graycardinal's tell? Since I'll probably never be allowed to guess again, someone should get to use it...

It was never going to happen, unfortunately :P

Ooo, tempted... But I think I ought to try and work out his tell myself - good deducing practice! ^__^

I...I kind of want it. Am I allowed to ask? Is that cheating?

And THANK YOU, MODS, FOR EVERYTHING YOU DO! I love this fest so much.

Cheating would imply that there are rules for this phase of the game....

Then again, per my comment below, it may be that we're about to find ourselves in an auction. :-)

Ooh, if it's a going to be a bidding war, I think I'm going to have to concede defeat in advance... Plying sanguinity with homemade cookies, from here in Scotland, seems unlikely to happen. Much fun though that might be to try. :-)

Giving up so easily? Boo!

Sadly for [personal profile] graycardinal, I've already stated his tell here on the comm; it's there to be found, if someone cared to look. And I'm unsure if even his baking is good enough to persuade me to go back and delete the historical record...

Oh. Dear. God.

I don't know if it's the tell but I've just seen a really obvious tell for graycardinal. Hurry up, next Holmestice! *quivers in frustration*

Dear me; now *I* want to know what my tell is. (As I noted to [personal profile] scfrankles elsewhere, I definitely need to keep an eye on formatting going forward, given all the typographic deduction going on this last round, but I don't think that's what you have in mind.)

Let's just see, though. How many cookies do you suppose it would take to induce a convenient loss of memory with respect to this "tell" we're discussing?

Wait...which part are you apologizing for? If it's for succeeding in thoroughly confounding all of us with your sneaky Newman Moriarty fic...well done!!

*Very* excellent guessing, too. Looks like I got 9/14 of my guesses right, which is nothing on your 12/14. (Might have, um, helped if I'd had time to read all the submissions first – I'm still catching up!)

And I'd like to join you in saying GRAYCARDINAL wrote my Doctor Who crossover gift?? So sneaky!!

I did feel rather bad about misleading you... But it felt very, very good too :P

9/14 is a perfectly respectable score - I'm just feeling perky because my percentage score has gone up from last time ^__^

And sneaky is not the word - did you see in his guessing comment he assigned his own fic to me? That's just adding insult to injury ^_^ And now that we know which is his fic, it just seems so embarrassingly obvious. Graycardinal has done an ACD crossover before, and has written Doctor Who fics before.

He did that to me once, too. And after I'd already correctly guessed his fic! But I've decided since then that attributing his own story to someone is just how he shows his affection.

(And he made me cookies, after, which helped, too.)

[chuckling]

The thing is, there's no good way to avoid the problem of what to do with one's own fic in the guessing stage. If you're attempting to guess most/all of the stories in a given cluster, it's going to be awfully conspicuous if you fail to make a guess at just one story. You can't very well file a guess that says "I must have written that one". The only other solution is to deliberately mis-attribute one's own story, but that appears to have its own pitfalls....

You did it so excellently, though, that all I can do is admire! You didn't offer a heavy-handed alternate guess for your own fic; you just agreed with me that my guess was reasonable, but you had some other thoughts in mind, and anyway, and then glided smoothly away from the topic, never to return. :-)

[glyph of amusement]

Heh. I was very, very nervous when you initially stated you'd fingered me but did not specify a reason or title, because I was almost sure you'd figured out a typographic tell of some sort (and you may be sure that next round, I'll be paying attention to those more closely).

But then I was highly amused when you tagged me for the Russell fic. It was really and truly a reasonable guess, given my own prior Russellverse contribution several rounds back; both stylistically and thematically, I am not surprised that people ascribed it to me.

In truth, of course, I'd actually written something entirely different, and I am pleased to have floated entirely under people's radar this time around.

Coulda knocked me over with a feather when she sent it in!

But she's done this before, you know, matched on ACD (I think it was ACD?) and then turned around and wrote for the most obscure of her recip's requests. And she has quite the gift for voices, too, as she demonstrated in this last round of [community profile] acdholmesfest.

Even so, I didn't imagine we'd get a Moriarty-centric story from her!

I think you might be thinking specifically about rachelindeed... We've both matched with graycardinal on ACD but Rachel wrote a Murder By Decree fic and I wrote in the rather less obscure Without a Clue 'verse. This is a somewhat new experience for me :P

Even so, I didn't imagine we'd get a Moriarty-centric story from her! To be honest, I think of it as a Moran-centric story. In the context of his own world, I find him quite a likeable and sympathetic character.

This isn't my first Holmestice as a reader, but it is my first as a participant. An extra big thanks goes to the mods for their patience and help!

One question- how do you update the posting date on AO3?

So glad you enjoyed! :-D

To update the posting date, click "Edit" at the top of the fic. Under "Associations" (the same group where you set collections and whether its a gift), tick "Set a different posting date." It should be straightforward from there.

And go ahead and set it to today's date (or whenever you do it); the point is to give it a moment at the top of its associated tags, however brief that moment might be.

Thank you mods, for keeping this lovely exchange going. I've only done it once before -- back in 2012! -- and I'm so grateful I had the opportunity to do it again. Thank you.
