[personal profile] holmesticemods posting in [community profile] holmestice
Thank you so much for another wonderful round of Holmestice! The mods want to say THANK YOU to all the creators who joined us this round. Being in this community with you is a joy and an honour.

Reveals and the Master List go up on December 21st. Until then, please enjoy and comment on all the lovely fanworks. (If you haven't thanked your creator for your own gift yet, please do!) Creators, please do NOT respond to Dreamwidth comments with your name attached or post your works elsewhere on the Internet until reveals go up in the community. You may of course reply to comments on AO3, which preserves your anonymity.

Meanwhile, stay tuned: treats are coming up! We have a bumper crop this round! For anyone thinking of making a treat, we will accept treats until reveals, so if there's a prompt that inspires you, please have at it! Just use the regular submission guidelines and send your headers to [email protected].

If you'd like to guess who created what in this round, here's a list of all the contributors for the main gifts. (You'll have to put in some extra work to guess the treat-makers!) Go ahead and take a guess! It's all in good fun.

Dear, dear rachelindeed, thank you for hazarding a guess about me! I'll never tell whether you're right or wrong (well, actually, yes I will...as soon as reveals happen, probably in just a few hours) but before this I was a bit sad that no one had even tried to guess me and now I'm very happy that someone did!

Okay, now that reveals are posted, I can finally say: starfishstar, you know perfectly well why I didn’t try to guess you! I was your beta!

Also, “new and unknown to both [Gray_Cardinal and starfishstar]” is two lies and a truth XD

:D

Well, I didn't expect you to guess me, of course! It was just that in a more general sense I was lurking about, quietly hoping maybe *someone* would. What's the fun in obscuring one's identity if there's no one around to try to guess it? (Not that I did an impressive job of obscuring myself this time. Basically shoved rachelindeed in front of me, waved my hands a bit and ran away...!)

Heh, yes, "new and unknown to both Gray_Cardinal and me". ;) I did try to play fair by the unspoken rules of Holmestice guessing. It's certainly true there was a *possibility* that a Watson and Holmes fic could have been written by someone new to Holmestice, rather than one of the usual cadre of More Holmesians. It's just that in this *particular* case, y'know, it was in fact me after all.

Oh, I thought you meant new to the fandom! Which you were, you know - you hadn't posted in it before.

Bwahahhahaah! That was me giving you an assist, should you need it. Your guesses were mighty impressive

Oh my goodness, it didn't even occur to me that you were doing that deliberately. Well, thank you!

Have you figured out your treats, yet?? There's a cliffhanger in the comments below, where you said you would be back with more guesses. :D

I just now checked against the main list, as I was kinda surprised there were no responses….
Huh. You’d really think I’d know your email?! Was that deliberate?

Ha, yes, I'm glad I finally let my impatience get the better of me and asked, because I'd been eagerly checking here, on the guessing post, and was so baffled that you never came back and made your guesses! Never even thought to look on the Dreamwidth posts for those works. :D

No, of course I didn't expect you to know my email. (Although it's very funny to me that you were SO thrown by that. It was literally just me using my main email account, since I couln't be bothered to dig out the fandom-adjacent email I've occasionally used in the past...) Anyway, it wasn't my email address I was afraid you'd recognize; I just wanted to stop you before you scrolled far enough down within the email itself to see the header for the fic, which would include my username and thus give it away. I didn't even know if the whole thing would work (maybe you would be the one doing backend things on AO3 and would see the work there) so I'm very pleased to know that you DID open the email, but were sufficiently warned off to be able to preserve the surprise. :-)

And I'm VERY DELIGHTED that I actually managed to slip my authorship past you and evade your guessing! Hurrah!! I thought it would be entirely obvious, since Judaism is something we share (though probably that's true of some others here and I just don't know it?) and we've talked about in the past. I remember you saying something about not having a lot of Jews around to celebrate with where you live, and also expressing frustration at people playing down the importance of Chanukah, so I wanted so much to give you some small Chanukah treat this year. That I could set it in Watson & Holmes, a 'verse I know you love, was just a little extra on top. The shammash on the menorah, if you will.

I'm sorry you've been sick and I hope you're getting better!

Happy almost Chanukah!

Here’s the thing. If it is a regularly used account, it comes up with your *name* as default. So I would have seen it pop up as Starfishstar. I see everyone else’s that way unless the gmail decides it doesn’t “know” them yet. So that was what I couldn’t get past. (Especially now. I’m in Weird Brain Mode) No I absolutely got that I needed to STOP before I saw the doc…and yes I did and already was laughing at that point!

Someone else at that time was Jewish, and was part of the discussion, but I can’t for the life of me remember who. And at least one newer person is as well. I remember it feeling like a rather high amount, given my previous fandom experiences, and of course we have a lot of folks here who are of other non-Christian belief systems, and I just love having that sort of inclusion that seems so difficult for me to find at this time. And the religious community here is always going on about it being minor, yeah, but I saw an article about how in many ways it’s a Diaspora/marginalized Holiday, and I like that framework. Thank you!!! (And Sick Brain was busy writing out a Christmas/Chanukah dinner at their apartment and got pretty far into it too before I just yelled “Sleep! I am not writing any of this down!”

Oh, I really like that framing. I am two things at once: I LOVE Chanukah and associate it with such warm, homey, family memories, and continuing to share that tradition with people I love is really important to me; also, I'm highly aware that religiously speaking Chanukah is a minor holiday, and has taken on this outsized importance in the US because of its proximity to Christmas, so when people go too far in the direction of treating it like the Jewish equivalent to Christmas it starts to make me wary, because that just feels like yet another form of assimilation. (Which, the whole point of Chanukah is celebrating resistance to that!) But framing Chanukah as a "disapora holiday" clicks and makes sense to me – thank you!

(ps I would love to read that Chanukah/Christmas dinner!)

Yeah people seem to go out of their way to remind me it is a “minor” holiday, and gained some prominence being closer to Christmas, but that hasn’t been my experience. We *only* did Chanukkah as a kid. No High Holy Days. That was too religious for my parents. They could handle “we lived, let’s eat” though. So yeah, minor…and…all I had.
My ex wished me a “Happy ChrisKwanzanHanukka!” This is, like, exactly the sort of thing you should do if you want to piss me off. I wished him a Merry Christmas.

Would you still want to read it in January? I promised myself no other writing till my FTH is done, which is critical to finish by 12/31

Absolutely I'd still want to read it in January! ...Frankly, I'll be *lucky* if I manage to read it in January – there are things of yours from a couple years ago I still haven't managed to circle back around and read :-( But yes, the interest is always there!!

We all do different things but by and large I am The Matcher. And The Scheduler. I can’t do much posting because I only really have an IPad and it is terrible at anything sophisticated
